Who writes it
Pages are written by Specialty Medical Center's team from current clinical guidelines, government sources and peer-reviewed research. Writing tools, including AI, may help with drafts.
Medical review, page by page
Every health page says at the top whether it has been medically reviewed. “Medically reviewed by” names the physician and the date of the review. “Not individually reviewed by a physician” means the page was written by our editorial team from the sources it lists and approved for publication by Specialty Medical Center, but a physician hasn’t reviewed that page yet. Publication approval is not a medical review.
Blog articles
Articles on our blog answer common patient questions in general terms. They are written by our editorial team from the sources listed at the end of each article and checked against those sources, but they are not individually reviewed by a physician before they are published. They don’t replace an exam or advice from your own clinician.
Who reviews it
Our medical reviewer is Eduardo José Otero Loperena, MD. Pages he has reviewed show his name, the review date and the date of the last update at the top. We aim to review pages at least once a year, and sooner when guidance changes.
How we source it
We prefer primary sources: Medicare and CMS, the FDA, Michigan statutes and the Department of Insurance and Financial Services, professional society guidelines, and peer-reviewed studies. Pages that state costs, coverage or evidence list their sources.
What we won't publish
- Guaranteed results or promised recovery times
- Blanket claims that insurance covers a treatment. Coverage depends on your plan and medical necessity
- Invented reviews, testimonials, patients or authors
- Claims that a treatment is FDA-approved for a use it isn't approved for
When the evidence for a treatment is mixed or still emerging, the page says so.

This site is not medical advice
Information here is general. It can't replace an exam by a clinician who knows your history. In an emergency, call 911.
