Chiropractic care after a car accident

When chiropractic care helps after a crash, when to see a physician first, and how Michigan no-fault applies.

Should I see a chiropractor after a car accident?

Get checked by a medical provider first if you have any warning signs, and soon after the crash even if you feel fine. For neck or back pain from a crash, chiropractic care can be part of the plan once serious injury has been ruled out. At Specialty Medical Center, our chiropractor works with our physicians, physical therapists and same-day urgent care, so imaging and medical follow-up are in one place.

Emergency first

Call 911 or go to the emergency room for chest pain, trouble breathing, a severe or worsening headache, confusion, vomiting, loss of consciousness, new weakness or numbness, or loss of bladder or bowel control.

A sensible order of care

  1. Medical check. Specialty Urgent Care in Dearborn sees walk-ins Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 6 pm, with CT and X-ray in the building.
  2. Diagnosis of the pain. Our physicians and spine specialists evaluate neck and back injuries such as whiplash and disc injuries.
  3. Hands-on and active care. Chiropractic care with Dr. Justin Jwad, DC, and physical therapy, as your plan calls for.

Need a ride?

New patients hurt in a car accident can ask us to arrange transportation to their appointments. Mention it when you call; our team confirms transportation coverage with your auto insurer before scheduling the ride.

What to bring

  • Photo ID and your health insurance card
  • Your auto insurer's name and your claim number
  • Any imaging, discharge papers or police report number

Michigan no-fault

Your own auto insurer pays medical bills through personal injury protection (PIP), up to the coverage level on your policy. Chiropractic care has specific limits under Michigan's no-fault law, so we check your claim before your first visit and tell you if anything isn't covered. This is general information, not legal advice.
